Space Weather Model Staging Platform
The Model Staging Platform at swx-trec.com is a community resource fully hosted in the cloud. It brings software best practices to space weather research by keeping the data and analysis pipelines all in a consistent ecosystem, enabling researchers to run models anywhere, without having to move data between locations or computers. The platform can run full-physics supercomputer codes in the cloud on-demand and automatically produce output datasets and visualizations by chaining cloud resources together.
The Model Staging Platform will scale automatically without human intervention when new models or capabilities are added, expanding access to the end-users and minimizing costs for the maintainers.
Please feel free to explore some of the currently available models below and contact the lead developer Greg Lucas at greg.lucas@lasp.colorado.edu if you would like to have your model hosted on the platform.
Visualize model runs that propagate the solar wind through the three-dimensional heliosphere. Adjust color ranges and sliders to reveal patterns in the velocity, density, temperature, magnetic fields, and more. Rotate CME surfaces and adjust opacity to view internal structures.
Run the NRL MSIS 2 model on any date. Select altitude, latitude, and longitude to view the composition of the atmosphere at that point in space and time.
Explore the impact that solar storms have on Earth's surface through the visualization of geomagnetic and geoelectric fields.
View real-time predictions of the Dst Geomagnetic index from 1 to 6 hours ahead with associated probabilities. The LiveDst model is based on multi-fidelity boosted neural networks that ingest real-time solar wind observed at the 1st Lagrangian point.
Use one of the provided geometries or upload your own .wrl file, select your parameters, and VECTOR will calculate the coefficient of drag, projected area, and force coefficient.
An interactive visualization of thermospheric dynamics using the Airglow Observing Network for the South American sector.
Space Weather Data Portal
The SWx TREC Space Weather Data Portal, a companion application to the Space Weather Model Staging Platform, focuses on data access. It enables users to discover, visualize, and download a broad catalog of data—from the Sun to the Earth—relevant to the investigation of space weather.
The data from the Space Weather Data Portal can be accessed programatically through the LaTiS API. This standard interface makes the data easy to use, both as inputs to space weather models and as a way to compare model results with observations.
